Homemade muesli absolutely trumps the store bought stuff. Store bought muesli invariably has something in it that you don’t particularly like – for me that’s sultanas.
Making your own muesli means putting in all the good stuff. What are your favourite muesli fillers?
There are so many different ingredients and varieties of muesli you can make. On this occasion I decided to make fruit and nut muesli with oats and puffed rice. I haven’t included quantities because everyone likes different ratios of fillers to grains.
To make this muesli you will need:
- puffed rice
- dried fruit (cranberries, apricots, peaches, currants, dates and apples)
- pumpkin seeds
- roast nuts (cashews, almonds, brazil, hazelnuts)
- Chop the fruit and nuts
- Dry toast the muesli in a fry pan or oven
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl
I like to eat muesli with yoghurt, honey and cinnamon.
